PRs win placements

Students have the chance to win prestigious placements at a PR conference this week.

The I [Heart] PR Conference, in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR),  takes place on May 24 2012 at Birmingham City University. The day of activity, organised by final-year student and CIPR Student Representative Lucy Hird is the first to offer a win-win situation for both students and professionals.

The PR professionals get the chance to hear about exciting new trends and issues within the industry from the PR stars of the future, whilst the best student presenters will win a work experience with one of 12 top Midlands PR companies.

Students have been working hard on their presentations as a conference paper for an assignment. These pieces of academic research are put to good use, giving the students an opportunity to be spotted by regional PR agencies.

Keynote speaker and managing director of NEC Group Stuart Cain said:

“I was approached to come and discuss my career with the students and was really interested when I heard what the conference was all about. Getting work experience is one of the most important aspects of a degree course and it’s great that Birmingham City University is forging such great links with industry.”

The conference will feature break-out sessions so that delegates will be able to choose the PR topics they are most interested in, from ethics and social media to public affairs or the London Olympics.

“I know how hard it is to find a work placement and just how valuable they are for your career. This way everyone gets to benefit from the conference and professionals can come along to talent spot for the future.”
