Profits down at WPP

WPP pre-tax profits fell 47% to £179 million in the first six months of 2009.

The public relations and public affairs sector grew by 13% on a year before, slightly less than ‘branding and identity, healthcare and specialist communications’, though these figures were affected by currency fluctuations.

The company reported that the effects of the recession were most keenly felt in the United States and western Europe during the first half of the year.
