Press Officer Asda

A new opportunity has arisen for a Press Officer working across George Home, General Merchandise and Non-edible categories based at Asda House.

The role, reporting to the Consumer Media Relations Manager for George Home, General Merchandise and Non-edible, is responsible for the day to day delivery of proactive and positive media coverage across a variety of media communication channels. This will be achieved through the management of seasonal events, lifestyle photography shoots, product placement and news generation.

Working in alignment with the marketing and trading teams, the role requires a passion for lifestyle PR and the ability to build strong relationships with key contacts across the business and externally, both with the relevant PR agencies and media contacts.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Reporting into the Media Relations Manager, and working with external PR agencies, on seasonal look books, press events and press call-ins
  • Working closely with the buying and trading teams to maximize press coverage by promoting our products across a range of media channels
  • Create and place relevant news stories that tell the Asda story around George Home, General Merchandise and Non-edible categories
  • Advise on and help to create ideas and content to generate social media conversation.
  • Assist with writing press releases, briefing notes and presentations
  • Collating and managing samples for our agencies and overseeing various photo-shoots
  • Organising and covering meetings for the Media Relations Manager and PR team, and attending multi-team weekly work-in- progress meetings
  • Reviewing all coverage both in press and online, including pulling together coverage reports and inputting into relevant PR and marketing slides.
  • Supporting the creation and implementation of PR plans and activity for the George Home, General Merchandise and Non-Edible categories
  • Advise and respond to media enquiries about issues related to George Home, General Merchandise and Non-Edible products

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A PR or marketing degree is desirable, but not essential
  • Excellent personal and communication skills
  • A talent for building relationships both internally and with external agencies
  • Basic news sense and the ability to spot a positive PR story
  • Hard-working, flexible and strong organisational expertise
  • An understanding of critical paths and contingency plans
  • Experience in forward planning and being self-motivated.
  • An interest in the world of lifestyle PR and retail
