I found your comments very interesting. Having randomly stumbled upon this piece, I must admit that I never really put much thought into the mass amount of stressful work that goes on within the world of PR. Congrats on such a well written and interesting piece.

Laura,
I completely agree with the huge misconception people have about the field of public relations thanks to shows such as Sex and the City. It is indeed not a never-ending party of schmoozing with celebrities, but hard work with a TON of reading, writing, corresponding and making sure you are always up-to-date.

I am tired of having to defend my occupation against those who see it as an "easy" major and that my skills will never translate into the so-called real world.

Great blog! Keep up the great work!

Public Relations is not based on sipping cocktails and having a life full no responsibility, you have to work hard in order to reap the benifits. If anyone choose's to study for a degree in PR, then I strongly suggest they do their research!

Public Relations is based on meeting deadlines and providing a service that will benifit the client as well as build on the reputation of an organisation or client. You have to be strong minded and dedicated in this industry, it based on how dedicated you are willing to be in order to assist with building a positive profile of whoever you represent. Clients and Organisations are trusting that as a PR prationer, you will provided an honest interst to maintain their image, this involves having excellent communication of both internal and external publics, having daily knowledge of the goings on within the media and economy, writing and chasing up press releases, having strong communication skills, and building on forming relatioships, you have to master the skill of your all chosen careers!

In PR not eveyone will like you or help you to get somewhere, no one will research for you, cover your press release, or even have time for you! It all depends on how far you are willing to go with your yourslef and how much you want to receive. The more you push yourslef to deliver for your client, the more you allow yourslef to grow, this is not an easy job.

Samantha is NOT real, get over it! TV desnt tell the whole truth so for all of those who decide their future based on a television programme....GET REAL LOL!
